Bad Cops, No Donut
Friday, July 17th, 2009Cops Are Above the Law
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009Chicago Police Officer Anthony Abbate was found guilty for the aggravated battery of a female bartender, Karolina Obrycka, back in February 2007. Read the article at the Huffington Post and watch the surveillance video to see this brave, heroic, uber-manly, 250 pound, staggering drunk, off-duty cop, continually punch and kick a 125 pound woman he shoved onto the floor while forcing his way into a private area of the bar; because according to him, he thought he was in danger.
Apparently, things much smaller and weaker than him, scare him. I’d hate to see what horrid violence a three pound Chihuahua would provoke out of his fearful little brain!
Abbate should have served prison time, up to five years for the crime he committed. He should have been sentenced properly, to send a clear message to the community that no one is above the law. Instead, Cook County Circuit Judge John Fleming sentenced him to two years probation with a home curfew from 20:00 to 06:00 each night, and 130 hours of community service.
Judge Fleming has decided to once more impose an "us vs. them" attitude in this sentencing. This action paints a very clear message, that those who serve to enforce the law, are above the law. With judges making calls like this, the police become nothing better than criminal thugs with badges.
We’re Broke – Pay up!
Friday, May 29th, 2009Senator Kent Conrad-D, North Dakota was on the floor of the senate this week, calling for a federal Value Added Tax (VAT) of 20-25% on all goods. The frightening part is not that this message was brought to the table, because it has been brought up many times before. The frightening part is that the senate was general receptive to the idea. The further horror, is that unlike previous proposals to replace income tax with a VAT, this proposal would not do so. It is simply another tax added on to all the others we already pay!
So, just what is a value added tax, one might ask? Unlike a national sales tax, which would add 20-25% of the item’s price onto the item at the checkout counter, it would instead add 20-25% of the item’s original price, putting it directly onto the listed item price, hiding the tax in the cost of the item itself. This is an effective means of camouflage to confuse gullible consumers into thinking that the item cost is simply what they see on the tag and that such is set by the manufacturer and retailer.
This means that if you have a power drill which now costs $100, the price tag will be changed to $125 and then the state sales tax (if your state has such) will be added on as a percentage of the $125. (Which means that unless the cash register adjusts for the VAT, you’re paying tax on a tax.)
Federal gasoline taxes works like this now. It is in the pump cost listed and only known to the consumer if you read the fine print labels on the pump. (You didn’t honestly think that the money you’re spending on gasoline was just for the fuel, did you?)
First and foremost, what gall does Senator Conrad have? He wants us to pay an extra quarter on every dollar for all purchases! Where does the Constitution allow for a VAT or sales tax by the federal government? 25%? The worst state sales tax I’ve heard of is around 9%. Talk about greed!
Secondly, this is a tacit admission by the government that things are just as bad as we think they are. The federal government is broke with it’s monumentally stupid spending and now must seek measures to prevent complete collapse.
Third, if this doesn’t show the tax-and-spend mindset of the Democratic party, nothing does.
Take some time to figure out the impact on your life, if this becomes reality.
Start with your grocery bill. Take what you spend on groceries in a week and multiply it by 1.25. What’s the end result? Without changing your diet, your food is suddenly going to cost this much more.
How about just buying a can of pop from a machine, currently at $0.75. That can of pop just jumped to $0.93, which will most likely be rounded up to $1.
Let’s say you want a simple, economical car – such as a Honda Civic Coupe. Currently the starting list price on the vehicle, according to Honda’s Web site, is $15,305. If the VAT is passed at 25%, this starting list price will jump to $19,131.
Now factor in a house. Even if you’re looking for a small home at say, $65,000 – that price is going to jump to $81,250. A $250,000 home, like many selling here in the Salt Lake valley, has now jumped to $312,500.
Do you think that you’re saving money buying online? A VAT bypasses sales tax issues and all online prices will jump up 25%. That $150 iPod you’ve been thinking of treating yourself to, without adding additional features, memory or even changing the packaging: just changed to $188. The federal government just took $38 from you because you want to listen to music.
Just keep doing the math yourself on the common things you buy. How about clothing? Cleaning products? Automotive supplies? Is gasoline going to be included in this as well, on top of the current federal fuel tax? It’s as if you just got hit with a 20% net pay cut.
If you think you’re having a hard time making ends meet now…
All Hail the USSA
Tuesday, May 26th, 2009I dare any Obama supporter to defend this. Go ahead and try! Let’s hear your rationalizations trying to spin Obama’s new plan as being a “good thing”. Try to defend policy as vile and insufferable to the Constitution as anything Bush managed. Try to defend a policy of indefinite detention of “suspected terrorists”, with no charges filed, no trial at all – just imprisonment on the word of a new “judicial” system outside of the Constitutional judicial system.
The only change this country got with Obama behind the Executive branch, was that he’s a better liar than Bush is. His policies are just as horrid, just as contemptible and just as gut wrenchingly disgusting as anything we saw during the Bush years. Further, Obama’s policies are being added onto the policies Bush established – none of which have been repealed. Wake up, Obamatons – you’ve been had.
Change, my ass!
MySpace Mopsy and Myopic Measures
Friday, March 27th, 2009The brazen, unbelievable stupidity of the law and law enforcement continues to surprise even me. One of the recent incidents which has my senses reeling, is a case where a currently unidentified fourteen year old New Jersey girl posted pictures of herself, consisting of 30 “indecent” images, on MySpace.
Certainly you can argue that her actions merit some kind of stern punishment by her parents and a harsh conversation on the sheer stupidity of performing such a naive act: but the government’s response is utterly nonsensical! This fourteen year old girl, who was not manipulated to do what she did, was not endangered by anyone but herself, is being charged with various laws against child pornography (presumably for creating and distributing).
Let that fact sink in for a second: She’s been arrested and charged with felony counts of child pornography for posting pictures of herself!
If convicted, she will have to register for the rest of her life as a sex offender! She will have no right to vote, own a firearm, etc., and will have to identify herself on every job application she ever fills out – for the rest of her life – as a felon!
How damnably demented, tyrannical and incomprehensibly brainless are our police and prosecutors? Are they really ignorant of the intent of laws like this, or are they simply throwing their weight around, using the letter of the law to purposely cause harm against people who have really committed no crime?
What good will come out of ruining this girl’s life?
The sick, festering, mentally deficient and morally bankrupt prosecutors pushing for these charges and the mindlessly absolutistic police who are helping them, are complete and utter scum – not worthy to eat the soiled toilet paper this poor girl produces. They have demonstrated no measurable common sense in this and should be debarred, disbarred and fired – and preferably buried in a very deep cesspool somewhere, where they cannot infect the rest of the populace with their malignant cretinism!
I am becoming more and more convinced, that the whole damned planet is going stark, raving mad.
